Nuvation, a successful Engineering Design Services company, has a unique opportunity suited for a very talented individual. Nuvation has two main offices – San Jose, California, and Waterloo, Ontario. We are building and expanding our Waterloo office, and this next level of growth includes an opening for a Director-level individual, somebody ready to lead the office through this growth and expansion. This position will require a truly talented individual, combining both technical and business expertise.

This position will have three main areas of responsibilities – Technical Leadership, Department & Personnel management, and Engineering Execution.

In the area of Technical Leadership, this position will include leading, from a technical position, the engineering activities and office environment. This will range from providing mentorship to managing projects and project managers.

In the area of Department & Personnel management, this position will include functional management of a large number of engineers, guiding and developing their capabilities and careers within Nuvation. It will also include managing and participating in engineering departmental activities, including Recruiting, Design Standards and Sales Engineering. This also includes coordinating activities with the head office in San Jose.

In the area of Engineering Execution, this position will include direct participation in the delivery of our Engineering Services, as a Project Manager, Architect, and Design Reviewer/Consultant.

The Director of Engineering position will require advanced technical capabilities, leadership, organization, and a commitment to produce outstanding engineering results and a phenomenal work environment.

Qualifications of the Director will include (but are not limited to):

• Advanced Technical Expertise, working as a Principal/Senior Engineer in advanced engineering design, using some combination of our primary technical disciplines (digital/analog board level design, programmable logic, and embedded software/firmware)
• Experience managing and mentoring all levels of engineers
• Experience architecting a design at a system and unit level
• Experience recruiting, motivating and directing a team
• Independent and self-managing
• Estimation and critical thinking ability
• High level of verbal and written communications
• Experience working in a multi-office environment across multiple time-zones
• Rapid learning ability
• Multi-tasking ability
