Web Application Developer

The Nuvation Waterloo office is looking for an experienced Web Application Developer to maintain and expand our in-house web application, Nuvation's Operations System, or NOS. This application is at the center of how we manage global resources, billing, and company processes. You could say that NOS is a continuous speed boost for Nuvation. It is critically important to our day-to-day operations, and its ongoing development is important to our future growth.

NOS has been developed in PHP, using the Zend Framework, Apache and MySQL on Linux. The most recent modules feature modern AJAX/Web 2.0 user interfaces. Exposure to the Zend Framework and Prototype javascript library would be ideal, but experience with other frameworks, libraries, languages and databases will also be considered.

The continuous software development cycle of NOS provides a challenging opportunity to develop and apply skills ranging from system architecture through to detailed implementation. The Waterloo office combines the aggressiveness and opportunities of a start-up environment with the backing of a highly respected world-class engineering design services organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop a large web-based software application
• Meet with Nuvation leaders to gather requirements
• Design new modules and capabilities
• Implement and test new functionality
• Re-factor legacy code as the system continues to grow and evolve

Required Skills

• PHP
• XHTML
• MySQL
• Javascript
• CSS
• Clear understanding of the MVC development model
• Experience working as a team member on large software projects

Nice to Have

• Experience with Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution
• Familiarity with the Zend Framework, or any other frameworks
• Experience creating AJAX/Web 2.0 with any recent javascript libraries, particularly Prototype
• Experience using Subversion as part of a team
