Nuvation Labs to Pioneer Design in Digital Scent Technology San Jose, Calif., April 24, 2000 — Nuvation Labs Corporation has announced an exciting new partnership with Oakland-based DigiScents Inc. (www.digiscents.com) to develop a digital scent synthesizer. The device, called iSmell, will connect to a computer through USB and emit scents on command. Removable cartridges, each containing 128 mixable scents, will result in an almost unlimited array of smells. Applications include scented emails, games, web pages, and audio-visual presentations. Nuvation will be responsible for all aspects of the electronic design, from concept development, through schematic generation, PCB layout, firmware, device drivers, testing and pre-production, ensuring a quick and efficient design process. The two most critical design considerations in this project are cost and turnaround time, with a goal of having iSmell on the shelves by Christmas. According to hardware engineer Kirk Nangreaves, "Scent is arguably the most powerful of the human senses in terms of memory and emotion, yet it has been virtually untouched by the fast-moving entertainment industry. If iSmell catches on, it could change forever the face of gaming firmware and the Internet.
