Internet-configurable processor company Blue Iguana Networks, Inc. spins off from venture engineering firm Nuvation Labs

San Jose, Calif., October 5, 2000 — Blue Iguana Networks, Inc. (www.blueiguana.com) today announced its successful spin-off from Nuvation Labs Corporation. Blue Iguana’s family of network-connected processors and Web-based transaction servers, due for release in 2001, reconfigure in-service FPGAs over the Internet without downtime, in a highly secure environment. Target markets include communications infrastructure, computers, and consumer products.

The Blue Iguana Processor is an off-the-shelf, economical, feature-rich solution that automates fast and secure system fixes, parameter updates, and product upgrades in the field. Designed to receive and send encrypted logic payloads over a variety of network and Internet connections, the processor provides hardware-level security, maintenance scheduling, hardware reconfiguration, device monitoring, and reporting services for the FPGAs inside an Internet-connected device.

The Blue Iguana Processor operates in tandem with the Blue Iguana™ Secure Transaction Server (STS), an Internet service for product development and customer-relationship management. Offering payload processing, storage, and distribution services, the STS assists developers and manufacturers at every stage in the product life cycle, from hardware/firmware co-development, to product changes on the factory floor, to quality assurance and field upgrades.

The STS is operated remotely by the OEM "eliminating the need for field technicians" and assures fail-safe installation, reverting to the prior known-good state if reconfiguration fails.

Alan Lattanner, Blue Iguana’s CEO says, "Internet access is now being designed into nearly every class of manufactured product, from automobiles to cell phones to the equipment that runs the Internet infrastructure. Other Internet solutions for field upgrades are firmware-based, addressing microcontrollers and products based on embedded processors. We have a clearly differentiated offering that addresses remote reconfiguration at the logic gate level."

"With Blue Iguana," says Nuvation CEO Michael Worry, "our customers stay ahead of the innovation curve—speeding their products to market, responding to fast-changing standards, and adding new features and new life to existing products. Most importantly, Blue Iguana protects brand image and customer loyalty by fixing product defects immediately and transparently to the user."
