Welcome to the Fall edition of Nuvation’s CURRENT! We are approaching the end of our 10th-anniversary year and setting new records again this year. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Nuvation has been engaged in over 500 design projects since our inception and adds nearly 75 this year to date. Thanks to all of you for your support to help us achieve this milestone.
Some of the leading product designs we are involved with include a digital cinema system (coming soon to a theater near you!), a technically complex subsystem for HDTV, a defense training simulation subsystem, a major chip company’s reference design kit, a high volume medical device and a portable ultrasound product, several video surveillance projects, and a number of very complex FPGA-based subsystems for high-performance computing, storage, telecom, and broadcast video. We’ve been very busy this year but we are always very committed to supporting your product development cycles. It really helps us to understand your business and technical goals so we can best serve you, even if your project starts are several months away. If you find yourself in an emergency crunch, please don’t hesitate to call. Feedback from our clients and partners is continuously positive regarding our team’s technical skills, professionalism, and execution culture.
Nuvation showed its state-of-the-art IP Camera Reference Design at the TI DaVinci seminar in Toronto, Canada and at the ASIS International Security Show in Las Vegas last week, and is exhibiting at the Portable Design Conference in Santa Clara, CA, October 3-4th. It will be the first year of the Portable Design Conference, bringing together design engineers specifically engaged in the development and engineering of portable devices. The conference runs in parallel to the ARM Developer’s conference also at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Ziggy, our world champion super heavy-weight combat robot, made an appearance at the Minnesota State Fair. Upcoming, Nuvation will be speaking about strategies for successful design outsourcing at the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show, October 15 – 18, in Toronto, Canada.
In this issue, we have some great technical contributions from our engineering staff. Mark Bingeman shines the device spotlight on Mathstar’s Arrix FPOA (Field Programmable Object Array) from a first hand view of the device and tools. Aaron Schellenberg authors the headline article, illustrating the AdvancedMC (AMC) platform architecture and accompanying design challenges. Nuvation is working on the next addition to its IP catalogue, the SATA Host Controller IP core for Virtex-5. Featuring, an AHCI firmware interface, this release version is targeted for Virtex-5 LXT/SXT with on-chip PHY.
On a more personal note, our seventh-annual Hike-for-a-Cure on September 30th was a huge success, with a turnout of more than 250 hikers raising more than a quarter of a million dollars for the Histiocytosis Association of America. On behalf of the HAA and my family, my heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of hikers that made it up the 18+ mile journey, and to all of the sponsors who came together on this record contribution. More information on the hike and cause can be found at www.hikeforacure.com.
For all of your support and best wishes, we thank you and wish you a successful finish to 2007.
Happy Halloween and Thanksgiving!
Warm Regards,
Michael Worry
