Product Update:
DaVinci™ IP Camera Reference Design

Complete, Production-Ready and Licensable Design to Accelerate Your Video Product Development

Download Product Brief | Product Page

Description
Nuvation has just introduced an ultra-compact, TI DaVinci™ based, IP Camera reference design!

The reference design is a complete, production-ready design based on TI’s DaVinci technology-based TMS320DM6446 digital media processor and TI’s digital media software.  It enables rapid time-to-market acceleration for the emerging wave of intelligent-edge video surveillance systems, video conferencing, automotive telematics, and machine vision applications.

Nuvation’s reference design was unveiled in February with a press release and the buzz has carried it far and wide including a flattering article posted on LinuxDevices.com.  Nuvation has since been demonstrating the reference design to interested OEMs worldwide including trade show demos at TI’s Developer Conference (TIDC), the International Security Conference-West (ISCW), and the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC).  We are shipping engineering evaluation units and have already signed licensees that are rapidly going to market with this technology.

The new IP Camera Reference Design compresses real-time, full-color 720x480 (D1) video in H.264, MPEG-4/H.263 or JPEG format. The design streams video over Ethernet at 30 frames per second to any PC software decoder such as QuickTime.  The encoder software is licensed from TI for use with their DSPs.  Nuvation is now an authorized software reseller for TI software and we can package this with your IP Camera license.  In addition to the software encoder and embedded Linux, the DaVinci IP Camera can also be configured with custom or licensable software such as Video Analytics.

Nuvation’s implementation of TI’s DaVinci technology is the most compact design ever achieved.  The encoder/analytics board is only 38mm x 38mm and packs the DM6446 DaVinci DSP with integrated ARM9 CPU, two banks of DDR2 memory, 64MB of NAND Flash, video inputs and Ethernet and USB outputs, and all of the voltage regulation and associated circuitry.  Yet the design adheres to standard DFM/DFT principals including no use of via-in-pad, no blind or buried vias, and acceptable levels of ICT coverage.

Nuvation’s design also incorporates Pixim's unique imaging technology which delivers superior picture quality in normal and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) scenes in any lighting conditions. Greater dynamic range significantly improves image quality and color accuracy, critical for positive subject identification in video surveillance applications.  Anyone who’s seen a video clip of a wanted suspect on the evening news and not been able to make heads or tails of the identity can appreciate how important we see the mass adoption of Pixim’s technology for surveillance applications.
Following are Embedded Linux software Board Support Package (BSP) and hardware block diagrams outlining the deliverables in our licensee design source file packages.  In addition to IP and Software licensing, Nuvation provides design customization and ODM production services for OEMs worldwide.
