Conductivity Sensing Board for Medical Device

Nuvation partnered with a medical device manufacturer to design a specialized board for conductivity sensing across electrodes in a liquid. These conductivity measurements are used to measure solution concentrations in an FDA Class II medical device.

Design Features:

  • Microcontroller: Utilizing the STM32L0, an ARM Cortex-M0+ 32-bit processor
  • Custom Analog Front-End (AFE): Designed for precise conductivity measurements, tailored to the specific needs of the medical device application.
  • Wide Dynamic Range: Supports a wide range of solution concentrations with a dynamic range of ~75dB.
  • Auto-Ranging Algorithm: Incorporates an auto-ranging algorithm for seamless adaptation to changing measurement conditions.
  • Narrowband Spectrum Analysis: Utilizes a customized sliding Goertzel algorithm for efficient spectrum analysis, reducing computing requirements and enabling cost-effective design with a lower-end processor.
  • Closed Loop Control: Implements closed-loop control of excitation signal for precise and stable conductivity measurements.
  • Self-Test and Calibration: Capable of performing self-test and calibration procedures, ensuring ongoing accuracy and reliability.
  • Temperature Measurements: Integrated temperature sensing capabilities for accurate monitoring of solution temperature.
  • Robust Interface: Utilizes RS-422 interface for seamless external control and monitoring, facilitating integration with the medical device.
