Nuvation was commissioned by a client to design the electronics for a helmet-mounted heads-up display (HUD) and communications device, tailored for navigating in low-visibility environments.
Design Features:
- Complex Form-Factor: Incorporates a combination of rigid, rigid-flex, and flex PCBs to seamlessly mount the devices onto helmets.
- LTE Cat 4 and GPS SoM: Utilizes the Quectel EC25 SoM with eSIM for reliable LTE connectivity and GPS functionality.
- Battery Charger: Integrates charger and protection circuitry for lithium battery • RFID: Features a tag reader for user configuration association, enhancing device customization.
- Display Controller/Driver: Utilizes the SYA1232 Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) Display Driver along with an illuminator for clear visual feedback
- Thermal Camera: Incorporates a Seek thermal camera for thermal imaging capabilities in challenging environments.
- MIPI DSI: Implements high-speed interfaces for board-to-board video transmission, ensuring seamless data transfer.
- Laser Driver: Enables precise laser functionality for enhanced situational awareness.
- Sensors: Includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU), magnetometer, ambient light sensors, and temperature sensors for comprehensive environmental monitoring.
- Phase-change Material (PCM): Utilizes a PCM reservoir as a thermal energy buffer, ensuring the electronics remain within their rated temperature range.
